What’s a Land Trust?

A land trust is a nonprofit organization that actively works to conserve land by undertaking or assisting in direct land transactions, primarily the purchase or acceptance of donations of land or conservation easements. The Conservancy is one of 24 land trusts in North Carolina working to save the places you love by protecting our land, water, and wildlife habitat.

The Conservancy currently protects more than 10,000 acres in its six-county service area. Support from more than 1,200 donors, 60 corporate partners, 300 volunteers and a variety of government and foundation organizations make our work possible. More than 75 private land owners have entrusted to us what is, in most cases, their most valued and precious possession. These people are just like you. They have a vision for the future of this region, and the Conservancy is making that vision a reality with each property it protects.
