The footpaths on the Catawba Nation Reservation exemplify the best of what the Thread Trail has to offer, by providing access to healthy forestland, the free-flowing Catawba River, and historically significant sites for the Catawba people and the broader community. Along the hike we’ll discuss the unique Piedmont riparian ecosystem operating at full force on this section of the Catawba River, and the Catawba Indian’s historical use of the trail and its accompanying folklore. The preservation of this trail as a segment of the Carolina Thread Trail represents a new era of conservation of our natural and social history in the southern Piedmont.
