Celebrate 2023 NC Year of the Trail with the Carolina Thread Trail! Join us for a family-friendly hike along the South Fork Rail Trail, a 1.8-mile gravel and natural surface trail. The trail runs parallel to the South Fork Catawba River (a tributary of the Catawba River) and through the 324-acre Rhyne Preserve, permanently protected by the Catawba Lands Conservancy.

Participants will experience one of Lincoln County’s finest natural areas, including mature floodplain forests along the South Fork Catawba River, a bald cypress swamp, rock outcrops, and lovely wildflowers.  The preserve also provides important habitat for migratory songbirds and other wildlife species.

This trail is relatively flat and well-suited to casual hiking for all ages.  Attendees should wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water.
