“After a day’s walk, everything has twice its usual value.”
– G. M. Trevelyan
We are in an extraordinary time, beyond what any of us has seen before. We’re being asked to make major changes to our lifestyle and being frightened by daily news. As we work together to navigate this unprecedented situation, let’s also embrace nature to stay healthy and cope with anxiety.
One of the few ways that we at Catawba Lands Conservancy and Carolina Thread Trail can be helpful is by providing the opportunity for a head-clearing, leg-stretching and immune-boosting walk in the woods. Trails on Catawba Lands Conservancy’s preserves remain open and many segments of the Carolina Thread Trail are open as well.
There are 300 miles of Carolina Thread Trails
across the region to explore!
You can keep your social distance, but gain a connection with nature. You can have a great family adventure or flee family drama. You can wonder at the majesty of the natural world and be grateful that it is always there for us.
Most of all, you can recognize that a time frame other than minute by minute exists and is available for you to enjoy at your leisure.
So get outside if you can. Take a walk or go on a bike ride with your family. Let nature work its wonders.
Stay well,
Bart Landess
Executive Director
P.S. Events through the end of the April have been canceled, but check out our Nature at Home webpage for trails off the beaten path, nature videos and outdoor activity ideas. Some segments of the Carolina Thread Trail are closed. See our latest news section for updates.
