For me, giving is all about preserving special natural places and experiences for future generations. While I’ve called Charlotte my home for over three decades, my deep connection to the natural world began in childhood as I explored local woods and coastlines. Those experiences shaped my belief that protecting our environment is one of our most important investments.
You can’t love and protect what you don’t know. And once it’s lost, it’s often lost forever. That belief fuels my support for conservation initiatives across the region, from natural climate solutions in the Southern Appalachians to family farm preservation efforts. At the heart of my commitment is Catawba Lands Conservancy. Guided by its Conservation Strategic Plan, the Conservancy is safeguarding the natural resources that sustain our region as a great place to work and live.
Investing in conservation means protecting more than land. It means preserving clean water, ensuring access to green spaces, supporting local agriculture, and building climate resilience. It’s about creating a healthier, stronger future for generations to come.
It’s also about opening people’s eyes to the wonders of nature, as the Conservancy does through the Carolina Thread Trail.
The Thread Trail system doesn’t just connect people to nature; it connects communities, enhances the quality of life, and supports local economies. It is also a unique linear park in a region where we are under-resourced in terms of parks and open space.
