The preserve, hugging the banks of the Rocky River, is open to the public to enjoy an area rich in natural history. Located on the preserve is a segment of the Carolina Thread Trail, which follows the river and is open for hiking and biking. In the summer time, the woods are filled with calls from over 50 birds including summer tanager, yellow-billed cuckoo and black-and-white warbler. At the trailhead is a boat launch/take-out for those who want to paddle the river.
