Jenny Ward

(Board Chair) Director, Organizational and Leadership Development Nuclear Generation, Corporate Governance Duke Energy

Jenny leads a new team for Duke Energy’s Nuclear Generation fleet, focused on workforce planning and talent pipelines, organizational and leadership development for the fleet’s six sites and general office. Prior to her role in Nuclear, Jenny led Duke Energy’s Corporate Culture work and was the Sustainability Engagement Manager. Community work and giving back is a strong driver and personal value for Jenny. She was appointed by North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue to chair the NC Council for Women.

Candace Taylor Anderson

Director of Sustainability, Belk, Inc.

Candace Taylor is Director of Sustainability for Belk, Inc. Prior to joining Belk, Candace was previously a management consultant focused on environmental sustainability, retail sales and corporate social responsibility; clients included Barclays Capital in London and The Sustainability Consortium. In 2011, she combined her professional travel schedule with an extended family trip, traveling to 26 countries in 11 months. Her volunteer professional and civic engagement activities include: Catawba Lands Conservancy (board member), Charlotte Evening Rotary Club (member), NatureServe (board member), Myers Park Foundation (board member), Sustainable Accounting Standards Board (subject matter expert). Candace is a proud alumnus of Howard University.

Phillips Bragg

Vice President, Bragg Financial Advisors, Inc.

Phillips is vice president of retirement, estate and charitable planning for Bragg Financial Advisors. A cum laude graduate of Wake Forest University, Phillips worked as an estate planner and trust officer at Wachovia before joining Bragg Financial Advisors in 1996. He is a Certified Financial Planner and a board member of the Charlotte Estate Planning Council and a member of the Financial Planning Association. Phillips is a longtime community volunteer and is active in many organizations, including Right Moves For Youth, St. John's Baptist Church, Boys Scouts Troop 58 in Davidson and is also a board member of Mothering Across Continents.

Jessica Braswell

Associate Professor of Environmental Science, Queens University of Charlotte

Jessica teaches courses in Environmental Science that range from an introduction to the topic to data analysis and research methods. Her research interests include sustainability and most areas of conservation biology, particularly the effects of invasive species on native communities. She is very interested in pollination ecology and the role of bats in food webs in the southeastern U.S. Jessica serves on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Food Policy Council and the Council on Locally Invasive Plants and Pests.

Jarred is a vice president in the Non-Investment Grade Debt Capital Markets Group at Wells Fargo Securities, LLC. He's a member of the Early Talent Council within the Wells Fargo Investment Bank. An alumnus of Davidson College, Jarred is a member of the Davidson College Board of Visitors and has been active with Big Brothers and Big Sisters since 2003.

John Culbertson

Owner, Cardinal Real Estate Partners

John is the owner of Cardinal Real Estate Partners, LLC. He created the company after working as senior vice president at Trammell Crow Company and International Airport Centers. He has held various leadership roles on several boards, including the North Carolina Turnpike Authority, NAIOP (Commercial Real Estate Development Association), Mecklenburg/Union Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Charlotte Regional Roads Committee. A member of the Urban Land Institute, John obtained his MBA from the McColl School of Business and is a frequent participant in Harvard's Program on Negotiation.

Ralph is a partner with Pace Commercial LLC, a real estate acquisition, development and brokerage firm. He is a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he served on the grants committee. He is a 1990 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill.

Walter D. Fisher, Jr.

Partner, Troutman Sanders

Walter is the managing partner of Troutman Sanders’ Charlotte and Raleigh offices. His practice is focused on the acquisition, sale, development, and leasing of commercial real estate. Walter is a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED-AP), a distinction he earned through the Green Building Certification Institute. A 1983 graduate of Clemson University (BA – Political Science) and a 1986 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law (JD), Walter is admitted to practice in NC, SC and before the US Supreme Court. He currently is President of the University of North Carolina School of Law Alumni Association and serves on the Advisory Board and Executive Committee of the UNC Charlotte Belk College of Business Center for Real Estate. He previously chaired the Catawba Lands Conservancy Board and Land Acquisition Committee and the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center Board.

Richelle Fleischer

Richelle manages a team of 1600 team members involved in the billing and collections activities for Novant Health’s 15 medical centers and 1,700 physicians. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a BS in Commerce and Johns Hopkins University with a Masters in Public Health. During her 20 years in healthcare, she has worked for both providers and other midsized consulting firms in traditional finance leadership roles as well as revenue cycle across the country. She has had the pleasure to work for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota as well as Texas Health Resources in Dallas, Texas. Her consulting client list included Phoenix Children’s Health System, MedStar Health System, California District Hospitals, Washington Hospital Center, Susquehanna Health System, Adventist Health System, and Visiting Nurses Association of Maryland.

Claudia Heath

Claudia is the owner of Claudia Heath Fine Art, a fine arts gallery specializing in American paintings. After practicing law for several years with Kennedy Covington Lobdell and Hickman, Claudia gave up law to pursue other interests in art and community service. Claudia is also currently chairman of Wing Haven Foundation Board of Trustees, a member of Trinity Episcopal School Board of Trustees, a member of Good Friends Board of Directors and a member of the Queens Learning Society Executive Committee at Queens University. She received her B.A. in education from UNC Chapel Hill and J.D. from Wake Forest University.

Lud Hodges

Senior Vice President of Commercial & Mixed-Use for Crescent Communities

Lud is a Senior Vice President of Commercial & Mixed-Use for Crescent Communities, overseeing development in all of the company’s markets. Since joining Crescent in 1997, Lud has overseen the development of more than 5.6 million square feet of Class A office space, 1 million square feet of industrial space and 250,000 square feet of retail space. Lud has been involved with 31 of 56 Crescent office projects, equaling over half of 9.8 million square feet. These projects comprise speculative developments with significant delivery obligations for tenant headquarters such as Outback Steakhouse and Piedmont Natural Gas, as well as build-to-suits for corporations such as Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and Trane. Lud received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech as well as a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is also a licensed real estate broker in both North Carolina and Florida and a licensed engineer in both North Carolina and South Carolina. In 2015, Lud joined the Catawba Land Conservancy board. Lud has two sons and a daughter and currently lives in Charlotte.

Jim Hovis

Attorney, Moore & Van Allen

Jim's lifelong passion for the outdoors started as a young age growing up on a dairy farm in Gaston County operated by multiple generations of his family. A lawyer in the Financial Services practice at Moore & Van Allen, Jim represents banks and other providers of debt capital in various transactional matters. He is a graduate of the UNC undergraduate business program, as well as the UNC School of Law. A longtime resident of the Steele Creek community, Jim is involved with the Steele Creek YMCA Board of Directors and the Land Use Committee, which represents the Steele Creek community in connection with rezoning and other development matters.

Kelly Katterhagen

Ms. Katterhagen is co-head of BlackArch’s Private Company advisory team, as well as co-head of the firm’s Business & Professional Services and Applied Technology practices. Her transaction experience is focused on business models that are differentiated in their use of technology and data to drive growth and profitability across a range of end markets such as Consumer & Retail; Food, Beverage & Agribusiness; Distribution; and Diversified Industrials. Thomas Lee

CEO, Appian Textiles

From 1996-2006, Tommy was employed with Duke Energy Corporation in various leadership positions, both in the US and abroad. After leaving Duke Energy, Tommy founded Appian Textiles, a fabric and faux leather provider to the hospitality, contract, residential, marine, and truck seating markets. He continues as CEO of Appian today. Tommy has served two previous terms on the CLC board, including two years as chairman, and is also current chairman of the Wellness Board of Directors at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, where he serves as an Elder.

John Mader

John oversees Wray Ward's public relations, content marketing, paid media and search marketing disciplines. He managed the agency’s content marketing team, launching and expanding its video production services, while cultivating engaging, educational and shareable content experiences for a diverse array of clients. Prior to Wray Ward, John provided media relations counsel for the CDC’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and he served as an account lead at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. John earned a bachelor’s degree in communication, with an emphasis in public relations, from Mississippi State University.

Jonathan Mangels

Jonathan is the partner-in-charge of the audit and assurance firm, GreerWalker LLP and has been with the practice since 1994. Jonathan holds a B.A. in Accounting from Virginia Tech. He serves on the Board of Advisors for the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and is active with the McColl Center for Visual Art and The Arts and Science Council. Jonathan received the “Forty Under 40" Award in 2010.

Julianne McCollum

Principal, Yellow Duck Marketing

Julianne is the principal of Yellow Duck Marketing, a top 25 website, branding and PR agency in Charlotte. Julianne has two decades of professional experience in marketing, public relations, web development, market research and technology and formerly served as vice president of marketing and technology for Crosland, a mixed-use real estate developer and property management firm. She earned her B.A. in Consumer Sciences from Purdue University, her MBA from Wake Forest University and is a proud Leadership Charlotte alumna. She currently serves as the Marketing Chair for Catawba Lands Conservancy, is on the Charlotte Ballet Advisory Board and is on the marketing committee for 24 Hours of Booty and the Children & Family Services Center.

Robert McLean

Vice President and General Counsel, EnPro Industries

Robert is the vice president and general counsel for EnPro Industries, a public diversified engineered product manufacturing company. Robert received a B.A. in economics from Davidson College and a J.D./M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His recent nonprofit experience includes serving as a director and vice-president of Charlotte Emergency Housing through its merger into Charlotte Family Housing.

Bill Mumford

Vice President, Development, Newland Communities

Bill has been with Newland since 2002 and has risen from the position of Construction Manager to his present role as Vice-President, Development. Bill is heavily involved in the initial vetting of new projects and parcels during the acquisition and due diligence stage. He graduated from the University of North Carolina – Charlotte with a degree in Civil Engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer licensed in North Carolina and New York.

Nancy Paschall

Nancy is an attorney who practices commercial, bankruptcy, landlord/tenant, personal injury, health care and general civil litigation law, and was awarded the highest professional rating of "AV Preeminent" by Martindale-Hubbell. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University (82) and Wake Forest Law School (85). Nancy currently serves on the board of directors for Covenant Village Retirement and Life Care Home and was on the board for the United Arts Council from 2001 to 2004. She is the past chairman of the board for the United Way of Gaston County and served in various capacities at the United Way for seven years.

Scott Phillips

Scott serves as Senior Vice President and East Region Treasury Sales Manager for the Commercial Real Estate industry at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1990. His commercial real estate market activities and affiliations include the Charlotte, Piedmont and Upstate South Carolina chapters of the Urban Land Institute. Scott was the 2013 President and is a current Board Member for the Charlotte Chapter of NAIOP.

Lat W. Purser, III

Chairman of the Board and CEO, Lat Purser & Associates

Lat joined his father at Lat Purser & Associates, Inc. in 1976 and in 1989 became President of LPA. In 2000, Lat advanced to his present position as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors. He is very involved and affiliated with professional and community groups including International Council of Shopping Centers, Urban Land Institute, The Fletcher School (for Learning Disabled), Washington & Lee University, and currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Managers – Dowd YMCA. Lat received his Bachelor of Administration from Washington & Lee and his MBA from the University of North Carolina.

Laurie Smith

Laurie is a corporate attorney with Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson, P.A. Her practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures for healthcare clients. A graduate of the University of North Carolina (1992) and Yale School of Law (1995), Laurie has taught as an Adjunct Professor at the Charlotte School of Law and has served as treasurer on the Historic Landmarks Commission, on the governing board of the PTA for St. Patrick’s School and as Chair of the Parent’s Council for Covenant Presbyterian School.
