Event Details

Come join the Carolina Thread Trail alongside the National Park Service as they join a small group of thru hikers who will have spent two weeks hiking the majority of the 300+ miles of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail from Abington, VA to Kings Mountain National Military Park. The group will hike the historic route the Overmountain Victory Men marched on their way to victory against the British and Major Patrick Ferguson during the Revolutionary War on October 7, 1780. This is the first time in decades a commemorative thru hike of the Overmountain Victory Trail has been done and this program offers the public a rare opportunity to participate in the most important segment, the final march to Kings Mountain!

This hike includes an approximately 2.5 mile hike to meet up with thru hikers at the edge of Kings Mountain National Military then a 3.5 mile return hike back to the Visitors Center. Following the hike attendees can enjoy an optional reception and program highlighting the significance of the battle that occurred at Kings Mountain that changed the trajectory of the American Revolution.

The hike will be from 10am-2:30pm, with an optional storytelling program at 3pm.
