This hike is full! Please contact Emma Rose if you would like to be placed on the waiting list.

Become part of a hands-on conservation effort to save an endangered species!  The NC Native Plant Society is teaming up with Catawba Lands Conservancy to collect seeds from a population of federally endangered Schweinitz’s Sunflowers. This sunflower has been listed as federally endangered since 1991, and all known populations currently exist within 90 miles of Charlotte, NC. We will be visiting one of the few existing populations in the world to document and collect seeds that will be used to establish new populations of this endangered sunflower.

This will be a moderate to strenuous hike through the preserve before we reach the sunflowers, so be prepared with plenty of water and good shoes!

Redlair is privately owned and conserved by Catawba Lands Conservancy. Special thanks to Redlair landowner, Haywood Rankin, for hosting us for this member event!

This hike is only available to members of Catawba Lands Conservancy (CLC) and/or Carolina Thread Trail (CTT). Not a member? There’s still time! Become a CLC member or CTT member today.
