Join the Carolina Thread Trail, Catawba Lands Conservancy and Sally’s YMCA for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of a new suspension pedestrian bridge and trail. Following the ribbon cutting, attendees are invited to explore the bridge and trail on their own.
The ceremony will feature brief remarks by Tom Okel, executive director of Catawba Lands Conservancy and the Carolina Thread Trail; Susanne Sellers, Thread Trail board member; and David Clark, Jr., Catawba Lands Conservancy board member and Sally’s Y benefactor.
The 66-foot cable suspension bridge is the gateway to a newly re-routed 1-mile natural surface trail called the Forney Creek Trail: Sally’s Y segment located within an 85-acre preserve owned and protected by Catawba Lands Conservancy. Alpine Towers build the bridge with grant funding from the Thread Trail. Constructed by Benchmark Trails, the out-and-back natural surface path is open to hiking and mountain biking.
The Sally’s Y trail segment connects to an additional 1.3-mile, out-and-back Thread Trail located on CLC’s Catawba Springs Preserve, 136 acres of neighboring preserved land. Together, these two connected segments create a continuous 2.4-mile Thread Trail that offers watershed protection along Forney Creek and public access for hiking and mountain biking.
