In June, The Carolina Thread Trail (The Thread) opened a 2-mile trail at the Buffalo Creek Preserve in Mt. Pleasant. This trail weaves through a Catawba Lands Conservancy protected preserve that includes a young pine forest, magnificent mature hardwood forest, working farm and restored native grassland. Although the trail is opened and being used by community members, trail enthusiasts and families, there is still one major task to complete: the construction of a suspension bridge across Adams Creek.
To build this bridge and complete the trail, The Thread is looking for volunteers. Volunteers are needed to work in shifts from 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. each day. (The bridge build scheduled the week of August 25-30 has been cancelled. New dates/week have not yet been scheduled. We’ll keep you posted.)
Those interesting in volunteering should register to volunteer through our new management program at http://www.carolinathreadtrail.org/volunteer/. You must have a profile to register for the project. Or, you can contact Thread Trail Outreach Coordinator Vanessa Gorr at vanessa@carolinathreadtrail.org or 704-376-2556 (x215) to register and for more information. Volunteers are asked to bring their own lunch, but water and snacks will be provided. We welcome the participation of anyone over the age of 18 who is handy with tools and amenable to working outdoors.
Buffalo Creek Preserve is located at 7911 Malibu Road in Mt. Pleasant, NC (in Cabarrus County).
Thank you!
